OUR PROGRAM

First Pres Preschool has a shared Care and Learning Philosophy that provides consistent language, classroom environments, and ways for supporting all children. We do this by having small classrooms, low child to staff ratios, and keeping children together as a group. The aim is to provide children nurturing relationships with teachers that provide a foundation of trust that facilitates learning.

We strive to provide a balance of high quality care with high quality learning by having qualified teachers at each age level of development. We want to make sure to provide excellent teachers for children at all levels of development to prepare them for Kindergarten and a lifetime of learning.

Our preschool use observations and assessments to help plan individualized lesson plans through the Creative Curriculum framework. The Creative Curriculum is a play-based, child-driven curriculum which focuses on developing each child’s social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language skills.

2.5 / 3 Year Olds

(Choose from a 2,3 or 4 day program.)

We make preschool fun, safe & inviting for our youngest students, making it a perfect entry into the world of school for your little one. They will enjoy an environment suited to their needs where they can be creative, meet new friends, learn to share and cooperate with their peers, sing songs and dance, read books, and so much more! Weekly music and art instruction is taught by a specialist teacher as well as weekly visits to our school library. Students also enjoy walking field trips and special field trips that create fun experiences to learn and grow outside the classroom.

4 - 6 Year Olds (Pre-K)

(Choose from a 3 or 4 day program.)

Our Pre-K program operates within the context of a play-based environment. The Pre-K program is a slightly more academic model of the curriculum with an emphasis on Kindergarten readiness skills. Our 4-6 year olds build upon their social and emotional skills, early literacy and math skills, handwriting (Handwriting without Tears program), problem-solving, creative-thinking and friendship skills with a program that encourages play and exploration. Weekly music and art instruction is taught by a specialist teacher as well as weekly visits to our school library. Students also enjoy walking field trips and special field trips that create fun experiences to learn and grow outside the classroom.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are held twice annually in the fall and the spring. Teachers use the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool to share each child’s developmental progress with their parents. They also use the results of the assessment tool to individualize curriculum and lesson plans. Conferences provide the opportunity for teachers and parents to build upon their partnership in their child’s early education.
